DESCRIPTION:

A scarce early map for Baltimore; not in Phillips, America; not in Rumsey. This large scale street map was adapted from Thomas Poppleton’s wall map of the city (1852 edition), but with additions and including more of the surrounding countryside. Numerous country seats near the city are located and identified. To the north of the city, east of Hartford Road, for example, is “Clifton Park,” the home of Johns Hopkins.

The accompanying text locates dozens of important sites, including banks, churches, colleges, schools, asylums, hotels, and businesses.
