DESCRIPTION:
“The Atlas de la Navigation by Louis Renard of 1715 has an interesting history” -- Koeman. The maps were printed from plates used by Frederick de Wit for his sea-atlas, which were thoroughly updated and corrected by Renard, who replaced de Wit’s imprint with his own. Koeman makes specific note of the corrections Renard made to each original De Wit plate; here the coastline has been entirely re-newed with different latitudes marked in the margin. A second edition of the atlas was issued by Renard in 1739, and a third by the Ottens brothers in 1745. Revisions were made for each edition.
