DESCRIPTION:

Based on surveys made by Vidal and Arlett from 1834 to 1838, during the Admiralty’s survey of the coast of Africa north of Gambia. This example has been updated to 1865. A copy of the earliest state can be found at the Huntington Library. The islands are surrounded by depth soundings, some notations, and lighthouses have been picked out in red and yellow.
