DESCRIPTION:

This large-scale map shows all of the Balkan Peninsula, most of Hungary, Greece, the Aegean Sea and western Asia Minor. Most of these regions were under Ottoman control during the first half of the eighteenth century.

John Senex (c.1678-1740) was one of the most important map and English globe makers of the first half of the eighteenth century. This map was probably originally published around 1710 with the imprint of Charles Price and John Senex. A second state was included in
The English Atlas, 1714, with the imprint of Senex and John Maxwell. This copy agrees with one in an untitled Senex composite atlas (after 1728), where Maxwell’s name has been erased from the title cartouche but preserved in the dedication.
