DESCRIPTION:

A large-scale map that shows Michigan at an early stage of its development. Although the entire Lower Peninsula is already divided into counties, only its lower two thirds are included on this map, and settlement extends no further north than the lower part of Saginaw Bay. The map gives a good account of the state’s already extensive railroad system and every organized township is named. An inset at upper right shows the entire state, including the Upper Peninsula.
