TITLE:

CONDITION:

Black and white copper-engraving, 7-3/4” x 8-1/2”. Remargined at top and bottom, not affecting engraved surface. Overall a nice example.

DESCRIPTION:

This is the first state of one of a small handful of printed French plans of the Siege of Yorktown (1781). The French Army and Navy were instrumental in the American victory at Yorktown, which brought the Revolution to a close.

This finely engraved and attractive map is crowded with detail. It is taken from the map in the Charleston edition of Ramsey’s history of the Revolution and appeared in the Paris edition of that work.
