DESCRIPTION:

This handsome map of the vicinity of Yorktown “is carefully prepared and provides fine details of the area including roads, houses, etc.” (Verner). Topographical detail is excellent, and hachuring is used to indicate elevations. Marshes and plowed fields are indicated, and the positions of the French and American armies are located. The original manuscript for this map is in the Rochambeau collection (Mss. 58), Library of Congress.
