DESCRIPTION:
“A somewhat curious map of Europe, Africa, and Asia is to be found in apocalyptic literature originally eminating from Wittenberg” -- Shirley. This map of the prophet Daniel’s dream depicts the four beasts who rose from the sea standing on the continents of the old world. This is an example of the first edition of the map, versions of which were printed in Bibles and religious texts until 1596. According to Delano Smith, many of the accompanying texts identified the fourth beast of Daniel’s dream with the conquering Turkish Empire.
