DESCRIPTION:
A large-scale, detailed map of Artois and Picardy, the northernmost provinces of France. They occupy roughly from Normandy north to the present Belgian border, and from the English Channel inland to just west of the city of Cambrai.
Guillaume De L’Isle was the most important commercial mapmaker working in France in the early 18th century, and was the Royal Geographer to Louis XV. The map also appeared in various atlases published by De L’Isle.
