We are pleased to announce the publication of our third catalog under the Cohen & Taliaferro name alone. The format has been completely redesigned and includes some exceptionally rare and desirable items, in particular Guiseppe Rosaccio’s ten-sheet map of the world [1597], which has been called “the culmination of the Lafreri School of map-making. Also included are fine examples of the world map from the 1486 edition of Ptolemy’s Geography, Martin Waldseemuller’s 1513 maps of the world and America; an exceptional portolan chart on vellum by Joan Oliva [c.1620]; the first state of Herman Boye’s landmark wall map of Virginia, 1828; a rare early Hawaiian imprint map of California [1839]; Mercator’s Historia Mundi, 1637, with excellent examples of Ralph Hall’s map of Virginia and Capt. John Smith’s map of New England; and the 1676 edition of John Speed’s atlas, red ruled and with fine period color.
